HOLISTIC THERAPY OVERVIEW

Thinking about seeing a therapist? A Holistic Therapist can help you understand your present through the lens of your past so that you can create a beautiful future!

Holistic Therapists are certified mental health professionals that have received training in traditional research-based, accredited masters or PhD programs that incorporate holistic techniques, like mindfulness and meditation, into their therapy sessions. Working with a Holistic Therapist can be a great alternative to seeing a more conventional psychotherapist, especially if you are not seeking pills as a first solution.

WHAT SCIENCE IS SAYING

Holistic therapy has been shown to be as effective as antidepressants

Holistic therapists can be trained in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Psychoanalysis, Marriage & Family Counselling, Clinical/Social Work for example. What differentiates a holistic therapist is their approach to the mind and body connection. They may, for example, see a connection between physical symptoms and untreated psychological or mental health diagnosis. Holistic therapists may utilize tools, like mindfulness, gratitude, affirmations and breathing techniques along with traditional talk therapy to help connect patients to themselves. A study published in The Clinical Psychology Review found that MBCT was at least as effective as maintenance antidepressant medication when treating patients with Major Depressive Disorder.

17.3 million adults in the United States had at least one major depressive episode last year.

We have a mental health crisis in this country. Nearly 14% of adolescents struggle with depression yearly and 1 in 5 Americans has a depressive episode in their lifetime. Studies show that meditation and mindfulness can reduce stress, anxiety, the effects of depression and can have long term mental health benefits.

Studies show that meditation can also help with a host of conditions beyond just anxiety and depression including inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fibromyalgia, psoriasis and post-traumatic stress disorder.

WELLSET: WHAT DIFFERENTIATES HOLISTIC THERAPY FROM TRADITIONAL THERAPY?

WINKLER: Holistic therapy incorporates the mind, body and heart into the clients process of exploration, healing, and shifting into a new paradigm of being. Traditional talk therapy can be helpful yet I often find it is limited by recycling stories which don’t allow deeper energetic shifts. When we can let go of our story and move into our sensory experience of emotion, and reframe our relationship to fear and resistance we can really expand into our authentic Self. Once I started incorporating mindfulness and meditation into the therapeutic process I saw dramatic shifts in my clients. This is why I call “mindfulness the bullet train to freedom.” I enjoy creating individual meditations and mindful processes for clients to implement into their daily lives so that they can experiment with the teachings we learn together. Only through experiential process can we truly grow, heal and change. I am a therapist who will give you many tools for transformation and I believe that each client needs to be met where they are and find tools and processes that resonate with them. My intention for each session is to fully merge with the client in presence so that I can best understand, hear, and connect with what they are wanting to shift.  I provide an atmosphere of trust, acceptance, and gentleness so that we can access those deeper shadows within. Holistic therapy is a process of integration and I absolutely love guiding clients on this path. My passion is to share the many tools to free the mind, reframe our relationship to fear, and heal our heart pain so that we can live an authentic and intentional life.
