Meditation is not just for monks. Its medical and mental health benefits are science-backed and proven.
If you aren’t already a person who meditates, you may think meditation is about sitting cross-legged and making a “b” and “d” shape with your fingers and thumbs while saying “OMMM”. Well, it might be that to some people (we don’t judge) but really it’s a scientific method of calming your mind and body that can be done by anyone, anywhere that can have enormous health benefits ranging from a reduction of anxiety and depression to reducing inflammation and increasing self-esteem and memory.
Mindfulness and meditation are sometimes used synonymously and “meditation” itself can look differently to different practitioners. Some coaches teach quiet mind-clearing meditations, some guide students through immersive visualizations. Other teachers combine breathwork and yoga with meditation. Still, others guide their students to write or walk mindfully.
