Sound Healing 101

Written by WellSet | December 20, 2022

Practiced in many cultures around the world, Sound Healing helps activate the body's natural healing systems for deep relaxation on a cellular and emotional level.  Instruments such as gongs, crystal singing bowls and chimes are used to create a meditative experience. The harmonizing effect produced by the sound soothe the brain and nervous system. Now, scientists and clinical studies are revealing just how healing sound baths can be.

How it Works
Sound healing is an ancient meditative practice that uses different musical implements to create healing vibrations around the body in a meditative state. Sound vibrations at strategic frequencies work on a cellular level to recalibrate the mind, body, and spirit.

The Evidence

Sound-based vibration treatment can significantly improve pain outcomes from arthritis, menstrual pain, postoperative pain, knee replacement pain. Sound-based treatment has even been found to improve mobility, reduce muscle pain and stiffness, increase blood circulation, and lower blood pressure.

Sound healing has been used in treatment centers to help cancer patients relax, meditate and heal. According to this study conducted by Duke Medical School, MIT and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, sound/vibration technology could be incorporated as a new tool in the cancer diagnosis process.

Are your ears ringing? Tinnitus is a common problem affecting 10-15% of adults for which there is no universally effective treatment. Clinical trials are exploring sound healing as a possible treatment plan for patients suffering from tinnitus.

What our Instructors Say:

"Sound healing is a beautiful vibrational massage. I always call it the cheater’s way to mediate! I love how you can lay back and the sounds somehow know where to go to give you so much peace and recalibration from the inside out. People are always surprised when there’s a particular moment in a sound bath where they drop into a deep theta state, where their minds experience stillness and calm; it’s a beautiful practice for folks with busy minds."
