Why Distance Reiki & Energy Healing Work

By Nicolle Mackinnon | November 17, 2021

Count us in for anything you can do from your bed, or while still wearing your pajamas. That’s why virtual holistic sessions like distance Reiki and energy healing are so incredible—not only do they work, but their benefits are enhanced by the sense of safety and security that you can only get in your own space. Virtual sessions, whether in a private 1:1 consult or a group setting, can help us start in an emotionally open place, giving the practitioner and our own bodies more access to healing.

Reiki is a Japanese technique of hands-on therapy that helps facilitate your healing energy. It taps into universal energy (“rei” meaning universal and “ki” meaning life energy) to alleviate blockages that might be contributing to your pain, illness, anxiety and more.

The Benefits
Energy healing, Reiki included, aims to increase your body’s flow of energy, releasing blocks that can create stagnation and prevent your mind and body from functioning optimally (a.k.a. priming them for healing). It’s similar to acupuncture or acupressure, where practitioners can improve your body’s energy flow, and help enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing and boost your mood. Reiki can be used to manage and support so many goals on your healing journey, including:

  • Reiki for weight loss
  • Reiki for anxiety and other mood disorders
  • Reiki for pain
  • Reiki for fatigue
  • Reiki for chronic illness

How it Works (Virtually)
Traditionally, Reiki is done in person, with your practitioner placing light hands over different areas of your body to relieve blockages and stagnation. Because Reiki is a transfer of energy, it can be done long-distance. Reiki Masters and energy healers are trained to send healing energy across space (and time) by linking up with your energy field. They may use crystals to help direct energy, or look at a photo or Zoom image of you while sending thoughts and healing to you or the group. Think of your session as a sacred container, no matter where you are. Even without hands-on contact, it’s just as potent and beneficial because energy isn't bound by the physical realm as it moves through practitioner and subject—and that can be done in-person or virtually. The only difference, and biggest benefit, is that a distance Reiki session is in the comfort of your own home, often making it easier for you to relax, let go, and open up to receiving healing.
