Meet the Instructor: Elissa Strutton

Meet Elissa Strutton, WellSet's myofascial release instructor extraordinaire. Elissa is a certified Yoga Tune Up® teacher and Yoga instructor, E-RYT 500, YACEP, with over 16 years of experience. Her integrative approach draws from extensive training and mentorships with master teachers, insights gained from years of working with students of all levels and abilities, continued immersive studies and a deep commitment to personal growth. Elissa educates, supports and empowers her students with mindful movement practices, myofascial release techniques and breathing strategies to optimize movement, improve breath capacity and help regulate the nervous system.

Q: What are you most excited about teaching on WellSet?
A: I'm most excited to be practicing with and learning from other WellSet Instructors and collaborating to create tools and resources to help more people support and improve their health and wellbeing.

Q: How can members expect to feel after taking your classes?
A: You can expect to feel more embodied, relaxed and aware.

Q: Why are you such a proponent of myofascial release?
A: From my own personal experience with self-myofascial release, I have gained a greater understanding and awareness of tension patterns and alignment issues that stem from a few old neck injuries, along with the ability to relieve pain as it resurfaces from time to time. These tools and practices help us discover deeper insights about our bodies, provide our tissues with regular maintenance and tension relief and can help soothe anxiety and reduce stress as well. Rolling out helps me feel more grounded and present as a parent and person navigating these unprecedented times.  

Q: Any expert tips for members trying myofascial release at home in class? 
A:
Be willing to start with a “less is more” approach. Explore a variety of techniques to find what works best for your body and to determine the amount of pressure that feels good. Remember: it doesn’t have to be intense or painful to work!

Q: What brings you joy?
A: Time spent in nature, my daughter's smile and anything that inspires spontaneous belly laughter.
